Read John 6: 52-59 and return. In today’s passage Jesus alludes to his own death. His own body will be broken.

Can you see? I'm hurting

I remember being on a bus in Edinburgh when a woman with Down's Syndrome got on. As she sat, tears flowed down her cheeks. She looked at a stranger opposite and pointed to her wet eyes as if to say 'Can you see? I’m hurting'. She drew attention to her brokenness in a disarmingly natural way. How at ease are we with our own brokenness? Do we acknowledge our own need for healing? Or do we hide it from ourselves and others?

Unsure of how to create space for healing?

Lent offers us fresh opportunities to allow God’s healing light to touch the broken places in our lives. Are we taking them? One way of attending to our brokenness is to give ourselves time and space before God in the context of a Lent retreat, a few hours or a day of quiet reflection and prayer in our own home. Possible additional resources to support us include Sacred Space Lent Retreat materials. Jane Edwards (Two Halves of Life group)
