Advent: 6th December - Speechless

Posted Monday 06 December 2010

Can I imagine been struck speechless by the appearance of God?

Opening prayer

Bless to me, O God, The earth beneath my foot, Bless to me, O God, The path whereon I go. Garmina Gadelica

The story continues…

Meanwhile, the congregation waiting for Zachariah was getting restless, wondering what was keeping him so long in the sanctuary. When he came out and couldn't speak, they knew he had seen a vision. He continued speechless and had to use sign language with the people. When the course of his priestly assignment was completed, he went back home. It wasn't long before his wife, Elizabeth, conceived. She went off by herself for five months, relishing her pregnancy. "So, this is how God acts to remedy my unfortunate condition!" she said. (Luke 1:21-25)

Silence and Imaginative exercise

Imagine yourself in the story. Who are you? Cycle through your senses. What do you see, touch, taste, hear and smell? (6 minutes?)

Thought

Sometimes the depths, the power and the love of God can render us quiet, subdued and awed.

Closing Blessing

Be a bright flame before me, Be a guiding star above me, Be a smooth path below me, And be a kindly shepherd behind me, To-day, to-night, and for ever. Garmina Gadelica To print out a pdf copy click here.
