Outcome of Reflection Day

Posted Monday 01 June 2009

Thanks to those that attended the Reflection Day at the end of April. It was a rich time and offered much to ponder in relation to the ongoing future of The Coracle Trust. As you know, Kenny and Bridget moved to Cornwall at the end of last year. After a period of reflection the continuing need for Coracle emerged , to help people navigate the landscape of transition at various stages of life and moving through various stages of faith. Coracle is primarily for people in transition and will always ebb and flow as people come and go. That degree of fluidity requires a core around which the transitory people may move. With this in mind Andrew and Kirsty Hook have agreed to take Coracle forward on the basis of one day per week. They are good friends of Kenny and Bridget, have been involved in a number of the groups, and connect deeply with the ethos of Coracle. Both are members of Community Church Edinburgh and live in the Newington area where Coracle has thrived. The structure of Coracle has consequently altered with the addition of more trustees and the involvement of some of the longer term committed people to work alongside the Hooks. This emerging Core Team currently comprises Gus McLeod, Mags Bryan, Ewan Mealyou and Jane Edwards and an expanded trustee group who will help in the formation and implementation of new ventures. Together we aim to journey well, assisting those associated with Coracle and those beyond in our navigation of life’s and faith’s transitions. AJ.Tessimond’s poem Not Love Perhaps captures something for us when he writes of ...

A need for inns on roads, islands in seas, Halts for discoveries to be shared, Maps checked, notes compared; A need, at times, of each for each, Direct as the need of throat and tongue for speech.

We sense that Coracle has a continuing role as provider of these ‘islands on seas’, ‘inns on roads’, places of hospitality for navigators and pilgrims to share stories, cultivate learning and instil an openness towards this God of the high seas, this Christ of the road.
