Two Halves of Live, October gathering: Distance and Intimacy

Posted Monday 01 November 2010

The unitive life.

“Entering deeply into the soul so as to enter more deeply into humanity and the mystery of God himself.” (Peter Feldmeier) Looking at the mutual relationship between distance and intimacy in regards to community and God. We consider Henri Nouwen as an exemplar of the spiritual journey and the movements he has noticed - loneliness to home (experienced as intimate relationship with friends and family) then onto a second loneliness (experiencing distance) that places us in a wider sense of home - deep connection with God as centre and integration with humanity. Where does the inner journey take us? Click for compact reflection sheet (PDF) or Search the Resources directory. Includes poems by Rainer Maria Rilke, thoughts from Anne Morrow Lindberg plus written and interview text from Henri Nouwen.
