Spiritual Direction
Offering spiritual companionship is a core part of the work of the Coracle Trust. This takes a variety of forms from ‘formal’ spiritual direction meeting at regular intervals to occasional meetings as particular issues, questions or experiences arise.
‘We seldom notice how each day is a holy place
Where the eucharist of the ordinary happens’
- John O’Donohue
Some folk wish to explore different approaches to prayer, others to make sense of some of their life experiences, others to deepen their understanding through studying a book together. The purpose and principle of this ministry is to provide a safe context in which to deepen an awareness of and response to the ways in which God is at work in an individual’s life and how this is set in the journey of the faith community.
A spiritual direction practice
Gus MacLeod, Mags Bryan, Jane Edwards and Andrew Hook offer to meet with individuals within and outwith Coracle for a mutually agreed form of spiritual conversation. Either fully trained or currently in training, each receive spiritual direction and are in touch with networks of others offering forms of faith accompaniment.
Retreats and workshops
We also offer support to groups by way of facilitating retreats. These would be fashioned through shared discussion and discernment. From time to time contemplative workshops will be shared, such as Exploring Silence (May 2010) and retreats such as those at Notre Dame Apostolic Centre in Skelmorlie.
