advent 2016: crossing thresholds
This advent we take as our thread the continuing theme of crossing thresholds. Each week there will be reflections posted on Advent Sundays and also during the week.
One such threshold is the crossing between night and day, the daily rise of the sun that breaks open a new day. Light gradually creeps into darkness. John the Baptist's voice is heard in the wilderness, the angel Gabriel's into the sleepy state of Joseph and the receptive space of Mary. Jesus, now as a baby, opens his eye onto his new world.
And so we enter Advent too, listening to the Voice in our wilderness, ready for the One who Himself crosses thresholds to draw and embrace us. We await his questions and requests that might also make or unmake our lives, and those for whom we pray.
O Rising Dawn,
Radiance of the Light eternal and Sun of Justice:
come and enlighten those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.
O Antiphon, Rising Dawn
Fear and joy
Journeys we'd rather not embark on
Stillness before the loving gaze.
Crossing thresholds with the Spirit
Drawing back and being drawn
Breaking with the past
Crossing the trust threshold
Questions and requests
The 'holy' threshold is crossed
