Birth of John the Baptist, Domenico Ghirlandaio

Opening prayer

I rejoice with Mary and Joseph, I worship with the shepherds, I sing with the angels, I offer my gifts with the wise men. I receive the living Lord. (Extracted from David Adam prayer)

The story continues…

"And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! Nothing, you see, is impossible with God." (Luke 1:36-37)

Silence and Imaginative exercise

I didn't realise! I did not know! There was more and I did not see it. I did not believe. Sometimes we don't see, or can't imagine, God in the future. Is there space for God to act? Have I factored in such a possibility? Imagine yourself in the picture. Who are you? What are you thinking, feeling? (11 minutes?)

Closing Blessing

May Christ Jesus look into your face with love, God the Creator spring to life within your being and the Holy Spirit be found in sacred places around you.
