2nd December - Storytelling

December 2, 2010 Andrew Hook

Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress, Washington, DC, USA. Painting by John White Alexander: Oral Tradition

The genealogies are another way of telling a story, for in the names and progression are carried the swell of salvation history.

Opening prayer

Bless to me, O God, The earth beneath my foot, Bless to me, O God, The path whereon I go.Garmina Gadelica

The story continues…

The family tree of Jesus Christ, David’s son, Abraham’s son: David had Solomon... ...Josiah had Jehoiachin and his brothers, and then the people were taken into the Babylonian exile. When the Babylonian exile ended, Jeconiah had Shealtiel, Sheatiel had Zerubbabel... Jacob hadJoseph, Mary's husband, the Mary who gave birth to Jesus, the Jesus who was called Christ. (Matthew 1:6-16)

Silence and Imaginative exercise

Imagine yourself in the story. Who are you? Cycle through your senses. What do you see, touch, taste, hear and smell? (2 minutes?)

Question

Can you name and/or trace significant moments in your life? They may be the words or actions of another person.

Closing Blessing

Be a bright flame before me, Be a guiding star above me, Be a smooth path below me, And be a kindly shepherd behind me, To-day, to-night, and for ever. Garmina Gadelica
