Welcome,

Child of love,

God is here to bless you.

Celtic Daily Prayer, Dedication of a child

You created my inmost being. Psalm 139:13

Welcome, child of love

We have a personal welcome into the world, a ‘Yes’ from God that is for our hearing. It regards our birth, our very existence, our presence and resonates with the energy and emotion of love. It seems to me that there is also a ‘Yes’ that beckons us at each stage of life, through tight thresholds encouraging us out and into open places, a new version of life. David Runcorn* observes that each stage of life has its potential and its struggle, its own challenges of growth.

God is here to bless you

Our early stages involve feeding and communicating our basic needs – the desire for nourishment and security. It seems right that each stage's needs and activities do not stop but that it's relative place changes as we grow older. This leads me then to ponder, Do I now appropriately communicate my needs, the way I could when I was younger? Maybe each stage also has it’s own questions. For this stage of birth and beginnings they revolve around trust and the expectation of benevolence. I then tumble into the gaping questions, Do I feel welcomed, and drawn? Do I struggle to feel that sense of particular care?
