7th December - A messenger

Gabriel, Georgia fresco

Wisdom and contemplative traditions suggest to us that God's messages to us are often to be found right under our noses. The messengers are our own lives, the emotions that erupt unbidden, the trees, mountains and rivers that are invested with His design, as well as the dramatic, the angelic and the still small voice.

Opening prayer

I rejoice with Mary and Joseph, I worship with the shepherds, I sing with the angels, I offer my gifts with the wise men. I receive the living Lord.

The story continues…

In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to the Galilean village of Nazareth to a virgin engaged to be married to a man descended from David. His name was Joseph, and the virgin's name, Mary. (Luke 1:26-27)

Silence and Imaginative exercise

What messages are under my nose? (7 minutes?)

Closing blessing

May Christ Jesus look into your face with love, God the Creator spring to life within your being and the Holy Spirit be found in sacred places around you.
